Out of Time Development Diary: Travis's character design

In this article we reveal the face of Travis Walker, protagonist of Out of Time, and as a bonus we include the steps we took to get there. I’m not as experienced as Khyle in game development, so don’t expect top-notch essays. I just draw stuff.

This morning Auriond informed me of an email from an adventure-gaming enthusiast about our development of Out of Time. They were very concerned about our decision to make the game episodic, and had inquired to us about reconsidering our episodic development. Team Effigy has always been wide open to consumer and player feedback, as we find that it is very important to take into consideration all comments and critiques of whatever we are working on.

In that light, instead of continuing to write about mind-mapping in this issue of my development diary, I’m going to take the time to give plenty of explanation as to why the episodic formula is going to be very important for Out of Time, and hopefully put curiosities at rest in the assurance that I’m pretty sure we know what we’re doing.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I discovered that The Marionette has actually made it to Indiegames.com’s feature on Best Freeware Adventure Games 2009!

And on top of that, it’s been nominated in JayIsGames.com’s Best Freeware Adventure category. But it’s up against the formidable Ben Chandler, who has 5 (five!!!!! … oh wait, ! is also one of his games) nominations. I’m just glad we even made the list. I don’t know what TM is doing among all those pretty colourful games anyway.

You can vote daily, so if you think The Marionette deserves to be Best Freeware Adventure of 2009, you know what to do. Myself, I’m staying out of it, but if I were to vote I just might go for Tanaka’s Friendly Adventure. Who can resist that much cuteness? :D

Khyle's Out of Time Development Diary: The Mind Map - Telling a Story

In retrospect of having an even larger development role in Out of Time than The Marionette, I’ve decided to start archiving our (my?) progress in the form of a journal-type-blog thing, to not only provide regular updates for those chomping at the bit for a new game by Team Effigy, but to also give information and game-creation ideas for those who might wish to try their hand in game development.
